Common vocabulary
Game
- Phase/Level
- Internal organization of a game that sets sub-goals that must be accomplished in the game.
Player/Learner profile
- User ID
- Unique identifier for the user
- Session ID
- Unique identifier for the session, shared across multiple components.
- Knowledge space and Competence space
- See Creating a knowledge space.
Standardized learner profile
For the learner representation, one standardized representation that can be used is the IMS Learner Information Package, which is a standard used in ePortfolio and LMS implementations. It is defined as "a collection of information about a Learner (individual or group learners) or a Producer of learning content (creators, providers or vendors). The IMS Learner Information Package (IMS LIP) specification addresses the interoperability of internet-based Learner Information systems with other systems that support the Internet learning environment."
Learning analytics
- Trace data
- Observable raw data collected from user interaction with the system - in this case, the game.
- Universal traces
- Data collected from player interaction and internal game logic, which are meaningful in the development of the game flow. These events represent everything that happens in the game and can be potentially used for assessment purposes [1].
